worker rights

take control.
You have responsibilities on the job...

Your employer has responsibilities, too...

  • make sure work is safe
  • follow the laws
  • stop any harassment in the workplace
  • pay workers
If your employer is not being responsible, you can take action, no matter how old you are. It can be scary, but it can be done!
The ACT Youth Network will soon launch a Teen Worker's Facebook page!

Connect with other youth who experience the same things you do on the job.

Your Rights at Work: The 411

Your Rights at Work: The 411Do you have a job? Thinking about getting one?

Having a job can be GREAT!

  • You have the chance to make your own money.
  • It can give you a feeling of freedom.

YOU have responsibilities

Working also shows responsibility. You can learn a lot of life's lessons and skills from being in the workplace:
  • how to talk with people who are different from you
  • how to stick up for yourself
  • how (and when) to take action if your rights are violated
  • self awareness: learning your strengths and where you need to improve
  • being on time
  • respect, both for yourself and for others

YOU have rights

You have responsibilities at work, and you have rights, too. Work may put you into situations that make you uncomfortable or unsafe. Knowing your rights can help you decide where to go for help and how to take action. These rights - and laws made to protect you - affect:
  • Where you can work
  • When you can work
  • Your safety (including how others treat you)
