Leading the youth portion of the ACT for Youth state-wide initiative is the Youth Network Steering Committee. Five teens combine their forces to make change in both their local communities and on the state level. They work with adults and teens to make it happen.

Ally

Steering Committee - Ally

Hey, my name is Ally Macy and I'm 16. I'm a junior at Hudson Falls High School in Washington County. In my spare time I like to hang out with my friends, play outdoor and indoor field hockey, spend time outside, listen to music, and help people as much as I can. I'm involved in an international group called Roots and Shoots, my school's yearbook club, teen council, our prom committee, and the National Honor Society. I'm really interested in environmental science, so I'm pretty sure that my future will include a job within that category. I love showing people that there's a lot to live for, and I think that ACT for Youth is great for that.

Lauren

Steering Committee - Lauren

Hi, my name Lauren and I am 15 years old, but I'm turning 16 on the Leap Year of February '08. I am from Washington County in upstate New York. I am involved in my school's student council and 4-H Teen Council. This will be my first time getting involved with ACT for Youth. I have a bubbly personality and love to meet new people. I am a die-hard basketball player, along with soccer, track, and horseback riding, and I have two horses. I have not yet decided if I want to be a math teacher and coach a basketball team, or be a lawyer, but I love helping my community and will have a great opportunity to do it through ACT. Let our voices be heard!

Rich

Steering Committee - Rich

My name is Richard Stein and I am an active member of the Queens County ACT for Youth Community. I am an extremely mature individual who will jump at every opportunity to expand my mind as well as help others expand theirs. I work at a local community center with children between the ages of 9 through 16 and lead all sorts of classes. I also have a particular interest in flying and aviation: I am a certified helicopter pilot and am on my way to achieving a normal piloting license. My ACT for Youth work in Queens has landed me a position on local community boards, as well as helped me start developing my future. My philosophy towards life is that time is granted to us to live life to the fullest, and I do my best to help others live their lives. By living theirs, they help me live mine.

Stephanie

Steering Committee - Stephanie

Hey, my name is Steph. I will be 18 in February '08 and I'm home-schooled. I've been very involved in the Girl Scouts since I was 7 and I'm president of my 4H TAG group. I'm involved in the Youth Development Action Team in Orange County and my Episcopal Church's Youth Group. I love working with kids and just having fun. I'm not sure what I want to do with my life yet, but I know I want it to have something to do with children. I'm very easy to get to know and I try to be very open-minded.

Zach

Steering Committee - Zach

Alrighty, I live in Bethpage, which is in Nassau County. I'm going into 11th grade. I'm interested in film and travel. My hobbies are swimming, running, and snowboarding, and I'm involved in the Youth Network Steering Committee because I think that young people have great ideas and they deserve the chance to be heard.
